What Is Shockwave Therapy?
Radial Pulse Shockwave Therapy delivers acoustic pressure waves to targeted tissues. It is designed to support healing, reduce pain, and improve function when used as part of a physical therapy plan. Sessions are performed by a physical therapist and integrated with your overall PT program.
The device used at Sport Ortho PT Brentwood is the Zimmer enPuls 2.0, a radial pulse shockwave system used in clinical physical therapy settings. An orthopedic evaluation is not required to request shockwave therapy, but a physical therapy assessment is required before treatment begins.
Who It May Help
Shockwave therapy may be recommended when clinically appropriate for conditions including:
- Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis)
- Golfer's elbow (medial epicondylitis)
- Plantar fasciitis
- Achilles tendinopathy
- Rotator cuff / shoulder tendinopathy
- Shoulder calcific tendinopathy
- Patellar tendinopathy
- Spine pain and radiculopathies
What to Expect
- A physical therapy assessment is required before any shockwave session.
- Your physical therapist will determine whether shockwave therapy is a good fit for your condition and goals.
- Treatment is used in conjunction with — not in place of — your broader PT plan.
- Shockwave therapy is a cash-pay service at $50 per session. Insurance does not cover it.
